They have an early bird special between lunch and dinner. The fried chicken and pulled pork were excellent! First time having NC style pulled pork and was thoroughly impressed by the vinegar style pulled pork! The mac and cheese was amazing as well. The hush puppies were delightful! The fried corn bread, fried okra and corn nuggets were good, but I got fried food fatigue after a few bites. Not from NC so maybe that is why. The sweet tea was definitely sweet, but after a bite of the peach cobbler, the tea didn't taste sweet anymore ! Great prices! I would definitely go again, but order unfried sides because the hush puppies and fried corn bread come with each meal. The fried okra didn't come out well, so the server got us some extra corn nuggets and fried us up a fresh batch! Served hot to the table!

Jackson's Big Oak is conveniently located on South Kerr Avenue one block away from South College Road. I was in town for a conference at the Convention Center and drove the five minutes to eat supper here, where they have a walk up to go window outside and a dining area inside. When I arrived at 7:30 pm the place was packed with only one empty booth so I decided to get a barbecue plate with baked beans and french fries to take back to the hotel to eat. The young ladies at the counter were both cheerful, courteous, and friendly while I placed my to go order and I was out the door in less than five minutes with my food. Everything was good and will definitely eat BBQ her again the next time I am in Wilmington.

Lived here my whole life never knew this place was here till today! As someone in the restaurant world i can be super picky way above most but wanted to try it. They were out of the two things i really wanted to try but it happens and we just had a bad snow storm so picked other things flounder and shrimp wasn't my favorite but boy those yams!!! I would just go back for them and the chicken and dumplings so so good our server was sweet and laid back. They could use some cleaning like salt and pepper shakers and napkins holders i just see that stuff but would go back

If you like Carolina style BBQ this is a traditional pork place. The only thing barbecue I found on their menu was just some pulled pork and it tastes just like do you expect Carolina Barbecue. The flavors are kind of basic met for an older crowd. The chicken was good nothing unexpected and not out of this world. But I have the coleslaw on the side instead of on top of my pulled pork. It was The Best Coleslaw I've had in this state so far. It's not a traditional mayonnaise base not spicy just a whole different flavor worth trying. The three waitresses were very kind and interesting people. And the prices were Fair. It's definitely worth a trip if you're in town.

Their slogan says something to the effect of “we’re not fancy, but we sure are good.” This couldn’t be more true! The inside is nothing special but the food and value were both exceptional. We got there right when it opened and the place was packed (always a good sign!) Would highly recommend.

Very solid Eastwern NC style shreded pork. An odd yellow slaw, was ok... but odd. Building was clean and neat. Service was good, it was a little slow when I went in. Food was prepared very quickly. Super good Brunswick Stew.

Jackson's is a country delight. Paintings of pigs and historic Battleship photos adorn the walls. A mix of booths and tables all basic mix up the room. It feels very warm and inviting. It is also a family oriented place. People of all ages talking and enjoying their meals. I decided to have a two item combo of Fried Chicken, Pulled Pork with Collards and Mashed Potatoes with gravy. Hushpuppies and cornbread also came to the table. The chicken was slightly on the greasy side but the inside was so juicy. Barbecue was full of smoked flavor and was anything but dry. Everything else was as it should be. If you go at lunch time, ask for Barbara. She is very kind and accommodating.
